Bloomberg reported on 15 October 2026 from FDA inspection reports obtained under FOIA. The account names Chengdu Shengnuo Biopharm and Nanjing Chengong Pharmaceutical, and says both made semaglutide and tirzepatide active ingredients used in compounded versions.
For Chengdu Shengnuo, Bloomberg describes an August 2026 inspection: black mold on equipment, significant insect activity in ceilings, and floors the inspectors called "gross contamination." Quality-control staff moved lab documents into lockers, and the inspectors could not recover all of them. Personnel poured product samples into sinks. Agency records list a prior inspection in September 2023. A Chinese regulatory filing said the company is working to fix the issues. The company did not respond to Bloomberg.
For Nanjing Chengong, Bloomberg describes a September 2026 inspection in which workers bought active ingredients made by other factories and applied Nanjing Chengong's own approval without reviewing those factories' testing data. A prior inspection is listed for March 2025. The company did not respond to Bloomberg.
FDA Import Alert 66-40, checked 17 October 2026, is a detention-without-physical-examination list for drugs from firms that do not meet cGMP. It lists Chengdu Shengnuo Biopharm Co., Ltd. (Chengdu, Sichuan), published 19 September 2026, and Nanjing Chengong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Nanjing, Jiangsu), published 1 October 2026.
