EMA committee recommends Lilly's Foundayo pill

EMA said on 16 October 2026 that the CHMP, at its 12-15 October 2026 meeting, recommended an EU marketing authorisation for Foundayo (orforglipron), a once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist for weight management and type 2 diabetes in adults. EMA says it can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, and that it is prescription-only. The applicant is Eli Lilly Nederland B.V. The opinion goes to the European Commission, and each member state sets price and reimbursement.

EMA says the weight-management recommendation is based on two studies with 4,740 adults. In the regulator's summary, weight loss after 72 weeks was around 5% to 11% depending on dose, versus around 2% to 2.5% with placebo. EMA lists nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea as common side effects.

CNBC reported the same day that Foundayo launched in the United States in April and the United Kingdom in August, generated $98 million in second-quarter sales, and is the second oral obesity drug to get the committee's backing after Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill, which received EU approval in July.

What this means for prices we track

The EU step does not change U.S. prices. The catalog does not publish a Foundayo medication price, so this note has no provider offer.

The U.S. self-pay figures are the ones already published on Foundayo vs the Wegovy pill, from Lilly and Novo Nordisk pages accessed 15 October 2026. Foundayo is $149 at 0.8 mg. A 17.2 mg refill completed within 45 days is $299, and $349 otherwise. The Wegovy pill is $149 at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg, and $299 at 9 mg and at 25 mg. List price is $649.00 for a 30-day Foundayo supply and $1,349.02 for a 30-tablet Wegovy pill bottle.

The Foundayo cost note uses those same Lilly pages for the other strengths: $149 at 2.5 mg and $199 at 5.5 mg through 31 December 2026, then regular prices of $199 and $299; $299 at 9 mg; and the same 45-day rule at 14.5 mg as at 17.2 mg.

GLP-1 cash prices after 31 December 2026, from pages opened 17 October 2026, puts the Foundayo 2.5 mg and 5.5 mg cuts on that end date. It does not put the Wegovy pill standard offer in the limited-time section that ends that day. The Price Index is unchanged by the EU recommendation.
